Experience Water park Swimming KidsIf you want to spend a day at a water park in Curaçao, you need to buy a day pass for a resort that has a water park. Kunuku Aqua Resort has one of the largest water parks on the island, with five pools and seven water slides. In addition to the water fun, the park has several bars and restaurants, as well as a small fun fair including attractions like bumper cars and a dancing fly.
Getting there
We had driven by Kunuku Aqua Resort numerous times before finally visiting it. From the road we often saw the giant inflatable towering above the resort walls, but we never thought there would be such an amazing water park hiding behind it. Kunuku Aqua Resort lies between Grote Berg and Jan Kok. When you take a left at Daniel you will find the resort on your right. It is 26 km from Villa Leoni and takes approximately 37 minutes to reach by car.
As a day pass guest, you are expected to park your car on the parking lot outside the resort walls. The grumpy guard checks your tickets as you walk through the gate and, after that, you can pick up your bracelets and coins at the reception desk that is just a stone’s throw from the entrance.
Pricing
In contrast to the all-in resort guests, guests with a day pass bracelet have to pay for food and drinks using plastic coins. You get a couple of free coins with your ticket, but we ended up buying 50 extra coins to get a family of four through the day. Day pass tickets cost $44 for adults and $32 for children, which is a lot cheaper than the Corendon Mangrove Beach Resort day pass. However, the Corendon day pass is all-inclusive, so, in the end, a day at Kunuku Aqua Resort will set you back around roughly the same amount.
The experience
The pools and slides are scattered across the resort, which is nice, because each pool area is remarkably quiet. There is not any particularly crowded area and there are hardly any queues for any of the slides. We started the day at the water play area for little kids where Naomi - 4 years old at the time - had hours of fun. In the meantime, Leoni - 8 years old - went on to explore all the slides in the park. She really enjoyed the gentle yellow water slides, but she could not get enough of the 124 meter long Blue River Slide. The steep Free Fall slide was a little too intense for her, so she skipped in. Actually, it was closed for most of the day, probably because the park was short staffed that day and the Free Fall slide requires supervision to operate. Fortunately, Jesse had a chance try it out and it was a huge thrill! When we wanted to slide down the inflatable slide halfway the afternoon, we found it already deflated. That was kind of a bummer. We did not understand why they just could not keep it inflated until the end of the day. Kunuku’s Hut was one of our favorite spots for the day, because we had cocktails and snacks by the pool while the kids were having fun on the water slide and in the pool. Most pools were a bit dirty with sand and trash, but it was not too bad. The fun fair opened at 16:00 in the afternoon and the line for the bumper cars was quite long. The bumper cars bump quite hard, so it is not suitable for small children. Even Leoni was a bit shaken up after the ride. Before we left, we got a small ice cream and headed home after a long day of splashing fun. Even though there is some room for improvement in terms of quality of the pools, rides, food and service, we would definitely visit Kunuku Aqua Resort again in the future. For one, we would like to see the robot bar in action some time. Unfortunately, it was out of order during our visit. All in all, the water park is great value for money and there is so much to do that it is almost impossible to do it all in one day.
You can buy your day pass online on the Kunuku Aqua Resort website.
