Food & Drinks Nearby Art Bar Barber Local RestaurantPasawá Box Eatery opened its doors in July 2023 and immediately became an immensely popular culinary hotspot on the east side of Curaçao. At Pasawá you can enjoy local food from a variety of restaurants surrounding a buzzing central plaza with a huge bar in the center. The bar serves amazing cocktails and great coffee. It is at the base of the building’s impressive central tower that features huge televisions all around playing live sports games, a DJ booth and a 360 degrees curved digital display at the top. Pasawá Box Eatery is almost completely constructed with shipping containers, but you will hardly notice, because every inch of them has been hand-painted by local artists. If it was not for the delicious smell of food, you would almost think you were visiting a museum.
How to get there
Pasawá is only a 6 minute drive away from Villa Leoni. Just drive down the Caracasbaaiweg and you will see the colorful building with a digital display on its central tower on your right. It is impossible to miss. There is a parking lot behind the building, but on busy nights, you may have to park your car down the street. The entrance of Pasawá is behind the building.
Eat-in or take-out
There are many cozy places to sit down at the main plaza, from dinner tables, to benches and lounges areas. It is also possible to take the stairs up and enjoy your dinner or drinks with a view on the plaza from above. If you want to avoid the crowd or just fancy a quick bite, all restaurants also offer the option to order for take-out. Being a box eatery, the restaurants at Pasawá are happy to box up your meal to enjoy at home or elsewhere.
Restaurants
When we visited Pasawá right after the opening, not all restaurants were open yet. By the looks of the artwork on the closed units, it seems like a Mexican noodle restaurant as well as an Italian pasta and salad restaurant will be added soon. Still, there are already many cuisines to choose from. There is a fish and ceviche restaurant called “Piská Sua”, a grill restaurant called “Pão e Carne”, a burger restaurant called “Everything Between Buns” and a funchi restaurant called “Funchi Ku..”.
Looking sharp on your night out
Pasawá Box Eatery has all the ingredients needed for a fantastic night out. There is excellent food, fancy drinks, great music and entertainment on the big screens. However, you can only enjoy your night as much as you look the part. Fortunately, Pasawá has you covered with a full-fledged barbershop incorporated into the building. It is called “Kònteiner Cuts by Mustashi” and it is open til late at night to provide you a fresh haircut and a sharp trim or shave.
Date night with Leoni and Naomi
Kids will definitely enjoy Pasawá. Leoni and Naomi spent a lot of time exploring and admiring the artwork. They also liked the different seating options. Leoni wanted to sit at the bar, but it was full, so we went upstairs to take a table next to the barber shop. From here, we had an excellent view on the bustling main plaza, while we enjoyed a fancy drink and vibed to the music. For drinks, we had an apple juice, a sprite and the expresso cocktail with vanilla cold brew, Jack Daniels honey, hazelnut liquor and caramel. The girls shared the “Cheese Don’t Go” cheeseburger with fries from “Everything Between Buns” and we ordered the “Tutu sticks” from “Funchi Ku..”. Tutu is a traditional dish from Curaçao that is prepared with cornmeal, butter, garlic, black-eyed peas, onions, nutmeg, and coconut milk. At Pasawá it was served deep-fried in the form of sticks, accompanied with a delicious sauce. It was the first time we tried it and it was very tasty. Be sure to try it too when you are in Curaçao!
Art
The combination of food, nightlife and art is what makes Pasawá Box Eatery truly unique. Colorful art and murals play an important role in the culture of Curaçao. Pasawá has captured this aspect of the island’s culture to the fullest by turning the shipping containers into a canvas for local artists. The art at Pasawá completes the authentic experience of a night out in Curaçao, including ice cold drinks, outdoor living, smiling faces and delicious food. We just could not stop taking photos with the artworks, so here are just a few. We definitely recommend visiting Pasawá to admire all the artworks for yourself.
